    Position Description

    Develop and lead the activities of the Package Design & Development team consistent with Pernod Ricard brand and strategic objectives. This position is responsible for the technical development of all packaging materials to ensure the safe and viable production of these packaging components sourced by Pernod Ricard North America and produced and co-packed by Pernod Ricard Manufacturing in the United States or Canada. Collaborate with various internal departments to provide packaging technical expertise and solutions to develop innovative packaging solutions for new and existing products. Collaborate with packaging suppliers to ensure their packaging specifications adhere to the fit for use expectations of Pernod Ricard - essentially the primary contact for all suppliers to gain approval of their packaging specifications. Oversee and participate in the management and innovation of people, processes, and technology to ensure the efficient and effective development and delivery of all packaging components associated with the Planning, Production and Development (PPD) process in strong partnership with Operations, Manufacturing, and Quality. This includes sub-processes (but is not limited to): (a) lead the development of technical specifications and design with suppliers thru transition of design concepts to artwork, final specifications, and final approved product; (b) development and modification of Pernod Ricard and co-packed component specifications for all dry supply categories; (c) development of component validation checklists for suppliers and operations; (d) establish testing protocols and lead bottling facility and supplier test and commissioning runs; (e) coordinate all technical development phases for additions, deletions, and modifications to components; (f) regularly lead projects that support Bottling, Engineering, QSE, Procurement, and NPD projects; (g) Oversee the business system administration function for all new and existing components and interactions with suppliers in both E1 and Intellapac.

    Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Manage Technical Design and Specification Processes ensuring aligned with operations expectations and executed in support of Operations Goals and Efficiency Targets. Be the KEY technical resource for packaging components.
  • Manage packaging specifications for all new and existing products as well support innovations during the Planning, Production, and Development (PPD) Process (e.g., technical input for new or existing packaging design and development). This includes, but is not limited to, collaboration with suppliers to ensure packaging will meet fit for purpose expectations of operations and the consumer, artwork approval tracking and control of final artwork, protocol establishment for package commissioning, and regulatory compliances.
  • Continual and ongoing collaboration with Operations/QSE to ensure packaging components optimize production processes to deliver high quality, efficiency & loss minimization.
  • Management of E1 database requirements for component and/or finished goods, BOM's set up and maintenance to enable efficient and accurate ERP related processes by other areas.
  • Management of packaging component database - Intellapac administration and interaction with all relevant departments and suppliers to ensure timely and accurate packaging specifications, Bill of Materials, etc.
  • Ensure packaging compliance with all applicable standards including Pernod Ricard Guidelines, FDA/CFIA Standards, State/Provincial Spirits Customer Standards, ISO compliance, GS1 standard compliance, Coneg compliance, and UL/CSA compliance.
  • Accuracy - This role must perform at a high level of accuracy with supplier engineering groups, design agencies, and production facilities to ensure form, fit, and function of our packaging. This function's approvals authorize the suppliers to produce. An error can result in high volume of incorrect items being produced and unfit for market use.
  • Identify needs for testing, establish test protocols and manage testing process including coordinating, gathering and analyzing test data and making conclusions and recommendations.
  • Partner with other departments (e.g., Finance, and Quality) to periodically assess the quality and compliance of packaging components with Pernod Ricard standards. Manage the weekly project status review meeting with operations each Monday am to advise all stakeholders of key new packaging/commissioning etc that are planned for the week. Manage and collaborate proactively with business partners to ensure early involvement in package design concepts, operations efficiency initiatives, cost savings initiatives, and new supply opportunities.

  • Requirements

    Education : Engineering Degree with packaging related experience is preferred.

    Experience/Background :

  • 5 years' experience in package design or supplier relations with a strong track record in project management or other comparable experience. Close support of manufacturing process.
  • Experience with PET & glass bottles, closures, wet glue & PS labels.
  • Engineering background and demonstrated technical expertise in package innovation, design, or packaging/product development experience. Demonstrated ability to translate, communicate, and monitor technical specifications between the business and vendors.
  • Industry expertise in Wine & Spirits or Food & Beverage preferred.
  • Demonstrated and strong expertise in process innovation and leadership.
  • Strong project management skills and multi-tasking.
  • ISO familiarity (e.g., 9001) preferred but not required.
