Temporary Assistant Manager, Hospitality & Sales

This is a temporary appointment for approximately six months to perform the duties and responsibilities of an individual on leave with a possibility of an extension depending on business needs. The required schedule is Thursday - Monday.

The Assistant Manager, Hospitality & Sales will lead the Mumm Napa Visitor Center team to achieve excellence in guest experiences by overseeing and executing brand and wine education, sales, and hospitality training. They will also integrate new experiences and evolve existing experiences by setting hospitality standards and expectations based on industry trends and guest feedback.

Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

Scheduling & Payroll Processing

  • Create and communicate weekly staffing schedules based on seasonality and visitor targets.
  • Prepare full-time hourly timecards for payroll processing through time-keeping system. Coordinate changes with Human Resources to help ensure that time-sensitive deadlines are met for accurate and timely staff compensation.
  • Coordinate with third party for part-time agency staff payment; review & approve through staffing agency timekeeping system.

  • Visitor Center Management

  • In conjunction with the Manager, lead and direct the activities of the Visitor Center team to achieve Hospitality/Direct Business priorities: brand experience, consumer acquisition, club conversion, profit generation, and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee all experiences, ensuring we are delivering the highest level of service for the VC patio & tasting room, Oak Terrace, and Vineyard Green, to consumers and trade visitors alike.
  • Oversee and execute staff training and education on Mumm Napa's brand story & pillars as well as wine knowledge to provide consumers with a consistent, memorable, and rich wine education experience.
  • Train and audit staff members across all experiences to ensure consumers are receiving an experience consummate with standards and expectations established.
  • In conjunction with the Manager and Marketing Team, plan for, launch and assess new consumer experiences and update current experiences.
  • In conjunction with the Manager, create a progression plan to elevate all hospitality team members to a level at which they are confident interacting and hosting VIPs.
  • Set daily and monthly priorities for direct and sub reports, holding them accountable to their individual and collective responsibilities.
  • Greet and circulate among as many guests as possible each day to ensure a 5-star experience.
  • Evaluate Visitor Center sales performance to goal, including tracking and analysis of variance and projecting forecasts.
  • Establish an atmosphere of teamwork and positive employee relations
  • Contribute to the idea generation of profit generation and growth for Mumm Napa direct-to-consumer business.

  • Personnel Management:

  • Address and appraise performance, identifying development opportunities.
  • Leads team to meet or exceed sales goals based on annual budget, communicating daily sales goals and results.
  • Communicate with staff, providing ongoing feedback to ensure they operate according to standards for professionalism, customer service, sales expectations and that company policies and procedures are followed.
  • Participate/and lead in activities that foster a cohesive and productive team environment.
  • Responsible for the staffing and development of direct reports
  • Process annual evaluations
  • Develop ongoing incentive programs for direct sales team
  • Develop and participate in ongoing training


  • NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Nature & Scope: Position works under the direction of the VC Manager. Communication can include sensitive information requiring complete confidentiality and discretion in dealings and contacts. Decisions impact the group and organization as a whole.

    Key Competencies:

    Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in experience and training preferred. College-level marketing courses, wine courses or other relevant training, a plus.

    Experience / Background:

  • 1-2 years Tasting Room Management experience, including inventory and people-management, required, preferably at a high-volume tasting room
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience required

  • Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Excellent sales acumen
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be highly organized and able to multi-task
  • Basic to advanced knowledge of wine, including knowledge of viticulture and winemaking
  • Bilingual, English-any other language, a plus
  • Budgeting and sales forecasting/analysis experience preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office programs, including excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to effectively train and manage staff

    Pay Transparency Disclosure: The base pay scale offered for this position is $65,000- $80,000 annually with bonus potential. These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and alignment with market data. The Company reserves the right to modify the range in the future.
