ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include but are not limited to:

TERRITORY PLANNING RESPONSIBILITIES

A sales representative is expected to plan time and activities to ensure achievement of HRD sales volume, distribution, promotion, and merchandising objectives within the territories and accounts by:
  • Planning, organizing, and controlling the execution of HRD Sales and consumer marketing plans to on and off premise customers in the territory.
  • Knowing and analyzing the HRD portfolio, accounts, and competitive conditions within the assigned territory for account brands, types and size sales trends, key personnel, purchasing, merchandising, promotional practices and procedures, and sales volume and distribution for HRD brands versus competition in the assigned territory.
  • Establishing and following an efficient, economical routing pattern that ensures assigned accounts are contacted and serviced based on account classification and sales potential.
  • Analyzing the total territory and specific key accounts to determine the priority selling, display building, merchandising, and promotion opportunities.
  • Establishing specific, measurable sales and merchandising objectives for the territory and key accounts as well as for each sales call.
  • Preparing professional sales presentations for each sales call tailored to current needs of the customer.
  • Working within an assigned budget.

SELLING RESPONSIBILITIES

A Sales Representative is expected to deliver effective sales presentations that achieve HRD sales and merchandising objectives as a result of:
  • Covering Portland Suburbs territory with focus markets of Lake Oswego, West Linn, Milwaukie, Tigard, Tualatin, Beaverton, Hillsboro. 
  • Knowing in-depth the features and benefits of supplier products and programs compared to competition in assigned accounts.
  • Executing a sales effort that gains new distribution, display(s), features, and on-premise promotion, achieves shelf management objectives, and the effective presentation of HRD brands to the consumer at the point of purchase.
  • Obtaining appropriate distribution within assigned accounts.
  • Developing positive customer relationships in the process of calling on all assigned accounts both in the on and off premise sector.
  • Presenting the complete portfolio and current programs to generate maximum dollar and case sales volume.
  • Adhering to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the sale of alcoholic beverage products in accounts.

MERCHANDISING RESPONSIBILITIES

A sales representative is expected to achieve the effective presentation of HRD brands to the consumer at the point of purchase to maximize the potential for impulse sales and competitive advantage by:
  • Gaining and building display(s) and other promotional support in accounts.
  • Achieving effective presentation of HRD brands to the consumer in accounts by space, position, and arrangement and other merchandising objectives.
  • Installing and maintaining clean, current point of sale material in high visibility locations.
  • Educating consumers on HRD history, quality products and programs, using support materials.

SERVICING RESPONSIBILITIES

A sales representative is expected to build professional customer relationships and effectively support the HRD portfolio in the process of calling on customers as a result of:
  • Making complete sales calls to every on and off premise account that includes but is not limited to taking accurate inventories of current distribution and inventory on hand, performing house-keeping and rotation of products on the shelf or back-bar as appropriate and needed, and updating, removing, or improving point-of-sale placement or appearance as needed.
  • Following up on prior commitments for service and support.
  • Facilitating the customer’s efforts to effectively buy HRD products to maximize customer sales and profits.
  • Ensuring pricing accuracy.
  • Calling on the account with a frequency appropriate to the customer’s actual or potential HRD volume.

COMMUNICATION RESPONSIBILITIES

A sales representative is expected to serve as an information resource for HRD and as a conduit between the field and management by:
  • Communicating information and recommendations to sales managers that will contribute to the development of HRD brands, sales effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide management with specific, current information on supplier problems, opportunities, and results.
  • Formulating recommendations that will strengthen sales results.
  • Submitting required reports promptly and accurately as directed by management, and maintaining up-to-date account data and records as specified by management.
  • Maintaining adequate, well-organized inventories of sales tools, brands selling and merchandizing materials.
  • Following HRD policies and procedures.

MARKETING EVENTS AND PROMOTIONS RESPONSIBILITIES

A sales representative is expected to associate and execute sales objectives during Marketing sponsored functions.
  • Act as the liaison between the promotions team and the field; in terms of executing brand positioning and performance at consumer venues (Pending COVID Safety Protocol).

  • Assist in the communication process for all parties to ensure promotion success and targeted results.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
 

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.  

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 

Four-year college degree preferred or outside sales experience and/or restaurant management experience.  Previous experience withing the spirits industry is a plus.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS


Strong computer skills.  Familiarity and understanding of Windows and Microsoft Office. VIP knowledge and/or CRM management experience a plus.


 

LANGUAGE SKILLS
 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, budgets, and government regulations, to write routine reports and correspondence, and to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, and to apply concepts to practical applications.  

 

REASONING ABILITY
 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT  
 
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually average but can be loud.
The work environment will vary and can include offices, liquor stores, restaurants or bars, warehouses, indoor and outdoor events, dust, varying weather conditions, public crowds, and non-public venues.  Working directly with the public, sales personnel will encounter crowded environments (both indoor and outdoor) and will be required to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.  Sales reps will likely be exposed to cigarette smoke, loud music, boisterous crowds, and people who have consumed varying amounts of alcohol.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
 
LICENSING AND AUTOMOBILE
 
This position requires a valid driver’s license to be maintained.  HRD will review and monitor violations as required to ensure a safe and productive working environment.  All state required permits as needed. A vehicle is required to perform job functions.
 
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, salaried position with the expectation of working a minimum of forty (40) hours a week, but will routinely require 45-50+ hours a week..   Workdays can include evenings and weekends and may be irregular.  Standard company workdays and hours are 
M-F 8am-5pm.
