Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits is seeking a dynamic Procurement - Category Manager to join our growing and fast-paced team in Miramar, FL or Dallas, TX. The Category Manager play a pivotal role at SGWS, leading strategic sourcing engagements across a wide range of business units to enable new initiatives to launch and scale rapidly. CM's are expert practitioners in creating competitive environments, and have a strong bias for decision-making rooted in data and analytics. They routinely influence C-level supplier relationships and advise senior SGWS leaders on innovative sourcing strategies that create sustainable, long-term partnerships. They are highly effective communicators, able to articulate the value proposition of partnering with procurement.

Spend categories under management for this role include: Vendor Diversity & Inclusion, however we often source items beyond the aforementioned.

The position reports to the VP Corporate Procurement, and in this role you are a key member of the Corporate Procurement team, and will be expected to contribute widely to the development of process and capability of the entire Procurement function and is charged with continually understanding the internal stakeholders’ business needs with respect to assigned categories.  Including, understanding the capabilities, dynamics and competitive factors in the associated supply markets.  Using an established Category Management approach, you will be leading the development and execution of coherent, consistent strategies for spending, pricing and vendor selection that drive toward enhanced value and breakthrough savings. 

The Category Manager will be responsible for leading the sourcing activities for the Professional Services Categories with an emphasis on Vendor Diversity & Inclusion.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the organization s representative for the finance department on procurement issues and procedures
  • Develop and coordinate new policies and procedures regarding procurement processes
  • Conduct analysis of program policies and procedures, develop plans, formulate guidelines, implement new developments and procedures, and provide policy interpretation for finance to purchasing customers within corporate guidelines
  • Prepare program guidelines, status reports and presentations for Finance and executive staff
  • Process account applications and maintenance actions, and maintain accounts database
  • Monitor approval of accounts to maintain an appropriate degree of control over vendor relationships
  • Coordinate daily duties of procurement support staff
  • Participate in developing requirements and be involved in the automation/test of procurement and logistics software
  • Assist in developing training material, preparing lesson plans, and overseeing procurement training
  • Manage all employees of the department; responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Additional Primary Responsibilities

  • Practical adoption and use of the Category Management cross-functional process to deliver Procurement strategies for each category and sub-category. Category Management process includes
    • Identification of prioritized opportunities
    • Leadership and facilitation of cross-functional category teams
    • Communication planning and execution with targeted stakeholders
    • Assessment of strategic and tactical options
    • Consensus building among cross-functional team
    • Formulation and articulation of strategies
    • Governing implementation
  • Awareness of spend patterns and organizational behaviors within assigned spend area
  • Insures compliance within assigned reporting area with all Business Standards, internal policies and legal/regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS required. MBA preferred and 5 years of experience or equivalent education and related experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years procurement experience in a sophisticated sourcing environment with experience in Professional Services Categories with an emphasis in Human Resources and Technology
  • Strong proficiency in all stages of the sourcing life cycle (from market analysis to procure to pay), especially the negotiation of contractual agreements. Demonstrated track record in complex deal structuring, negotiations and contracting
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards, company processes, supporting systems
  • Experience negotiating contracts and the ability to grow skills in negotiation and drafting
  • Ability to work in a team environment and have excellent communications skills both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze and draw conclusions from quantitative data
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and engage at all levels at all organizational levels; ability to cultivate and sustain high quality professional relationships

Physical Demands

  • Physical demands include a considerable amount of time sitting and typing/keyboarding, using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor), or adding machine
  • Physical demands with activity or condition may occasionally include walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping
  • May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 15lbs
