We are actively seeking to add a Trade Marketing Manager, reporting to the VP of Sales, and based at our San Francisco headquarters. This full-time role is pivotal to the growth of the company’s entire portfolio of brands. The right individual will align to our values, brings a growth mindset, and holds deep experience in both brand marketing and the U.S. alcohol sales marketplace. 

Key Responsibilities
The Hotaling & Co. structure entails a full suite of marketing capability sitting in San Francisco with a national sales team based in key markets across the U.S. Overall, this person will serve as both the strategic and tactical bridge between the brand marketing team and the sales team to fuel growth of the entire portfolio of brands.

Sales & Marketing Liaison
  • Serve as the dedicated communication bridge between Sales and Brand Marketing.
  • Filter and prioritize strategic needs within each group. 
  • Keep both teams informed, focused, and delivering the intel to be successful (measured by the performance of the brands in the marketplace and delivering on Distributor / Customer needs).
  • Develop and lead the systems and process for sharing information across the two groups.
Commercial Strategy & Activation Synced with Marketing Plans
  • Guide brand marketers on how to best deliver on brand objectives through the marketplace with a focus on Channel Strategy, Chain vs. Independent Approach, Geographic Considerations.
  • Effectively partner with marketers to integrate best-in-class commercial needs into marketing activity (e.g., tools like retail displays, assets like sell sheets, activities like gsms, key selling points).
  • Lead development of pitch decks to acquire new Customers by engaging the Sales lead and relevant brand leads (e.g., On Premise Chains).
  • Partner with the marketing experiential lead to enhance both consumer & gatekeeper touchpoints through events (trade events, industry events, consumer events).
  • Partner with the digital leader to form and drive online membership platforms that tap into artisanal spirit and cocktail communities (e.g. Touch of Modern)
Develop Key Sales Assets and Marketing Programming
  • Liaise with legal, sales and brand to determine what is needed, when, and how for successful market activation.
  • Ensure all assets and tools from the brand portfolio are accurate and delivered on time to sales teams (NIF, COLA, Sell Sheets).
  • Partner with marketing on the development of the assets.
  • Partner with sales on the socialization of the assets.
  • Lead the key ‘Point of Sale Buy Book’ periods 
  • Manage the sampling platform (partners, process, scheduling, execution, and reporting). 
  • Manage the coupon platform from conception to reporting (MIR/IRC, Demos and POS).
Lead Marketplace / Distributor Opportunities (& Risks)
  • Partner with Sales leaders and Sales Analyst to identify key opportunities in the marketplace for commercialization and volume/revenue-driving activation across the brand portfolio.
  • Lead the aggregation of marketplace insights of the distributor and retailer, and specifically the gatekeepers (decision makers in On and Off Premise retail).
  • Deliver programming metrics and takeaways for quarterly business reviews with import brand partners and board presentations.
Key Skills Required
  • Ability to manage and implement strategic direction coupled with managing through ambiguity.
  • Deep understanding of the sales cycle within beverage alcohol (preferably spirits).
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to connect and influence sales leaders and teams.
  • Experience as a brand marketer or understanding of how the marketing cycle operates.
  • Ability to influence brand leaders and push for proven commercial applications within marketing strategy and activation models.
  • World-class communication skills that can adapt to cross-functional parties (sales, marketing, legal, operations, finance).
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking and planning with action and results.
  • Comfortable working in an office environment (primarily) complemented by field visits.
  • Reporting to the VP of Sales, with a dotted line into marketing.
  • Based in San Francisco.
Qualifications & Skills Preferred
  • Experience in the U.S. beverage alcohol segment (spirits preferred)
  • Progressive Sales experience (to include On Premise sales, marketing or promotion)
  • Existing relationships with top accounts in the local market
  • Clean driving record and good credit history 
  • Direct accountability for results – goal oriented
  • Self-starting enthusiasm with can-do attitude
  • Resourceful, creative and organized with ability to manage timelines and logistics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Thrives in a fun, dynamic, fast-paced environment.
