About The Position

Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits currently seeks a Category Insights Manager – On Premise who possesses the below.

Position Summary:  This role provides critical analytic support needed to educate and influence our most important on-premise multi-unit customers. Through their vision, thought leadership, “Best Practice” approach, and analytical expertise, the Category Insights Manager directly supports Deutsch Family’s National Accounts On-Premise (NAOP) selling efforts.  This manager will collaborate with individual NAOP VP, Managers and Brand Managers to develop consumer and customer focused strategies, tactics, and category grounded solutions. This position reports into the Senior Director - Business Intelligence.

  • Assist in the delivery of DFWS Annual volume, distribution (BTG/Cocktail) and profit plan for select National Accounts On-Premise chains
    • Work with Account Managers to create annual account plan to include programming, innovation, distribution goals that achieve DFWS targets
    • Drive alignment on compliance goals and regional priorities to ensure field sales owns local execution of all national chain programs 
    • Provide analytic support to annual SGWS planning and goal setting meetings to ensure we secure their alignment and focus
  • Design, deliver and analyze all NAOP Reporting & Performance Management Tools:
    • Manage NAOP Account Directory for incorporating into internal depletions data warehouse
    • Manage and deliver depletion performance vs. plan highlighting key risks and opportunities
    • Create tools necessary to identify key distribution, velocity and compliance voids and highlight most valuable gaps monthly and provide information and tools necessary to close gaps
    • Analyze Nielsen CGA reports and industry publications; understand performance drivers and create actionable insights and customized reports that NAMS can share with valued customers
    • Monitor competitive set and identify new threats or opportunities 
  • Create the fact -based rationale to garner support of our brands in the On Premise:  
    • Customize National sales stories and sell sheets to meet NAOP chain specific needs
    • Analyze data beyond canned data tools and integrate multiple data sources into presentations including Nielsen/IRI, Spectra/demographics, panel, customer card/POS data and other syndicated sources 
    • Help in the preparation of annual retailer Top to Tops with targeted NAOP chain account 
    • Attend chain account calls focused on annual planning, innovation and RFP presentations, quarterly business reviews
    • Develop relationships with distributor Category Management counterparts at SGWS and seek thought leadership and advice frequently 
    • Share best practices, insights and learnings across the company to assist in delivery of On-Premise independent account goals.
  • Bachelor's Degree; MBA preferred
  • 7-10 years fact-based selling experience in CPG or Syndicated Research Industry (IRI/ACN) with at least 5 years in Beverage Alcohol 
  • Keen awareness of on-premise channel and sub-channel dynamics, brand/category trends and the mechanics of effectively customizing and selling in programs to on-premise chain customers
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and apply sales, syndicated, and demographic data to support targeted business plans and drive actionable solutions. 
  • High-level of creativity, resourcefulness and originality with the ability to tell a story with data
  • Effective multi-tasking and project management skills with the ability to develop, negotiate and manage project scope, timeline, work plan and end deliverables for on time delivery in an extremely fast paced environment
  • Desire to work in a matrixed organization with the ability to proactively provide insights to multiple internal stakeholders including Sales, Marketing, Commercial Planning and Business Intelligence.   
  • Authentic and amiable interpersonal and presentation style with the ability to effectively interface with customers, distributors and the internal executives 
  • Eagerness to educate Sales and Marketing counterparts on how to interpret data within reports and arrive quickly at key takeaways and action items.
  • Highly self-motivated and results driven with strong business acumen, curiosity, discipline, attention to detail and adherence to deadlines
  • Technical capabilities necessary to quickly and intuitively learn and apply new data systems, metrics and tools 
  • Expert Excel and PowerPoint Skills 
  • Willingness to travel 30% of the time
