Start It Sunday is ForceBrands’ initiative designed to raise awareness around the ‘Sunday scaries’ (the anxiety that affects 76 percent of Americans that is caused by the impending return to work). The motivational campaign empowers people to fear no Sunday and take on every Monday.

We checked in with the Co-Founder and CEO of Ugly Drinks, Hugh Thomas, to see how he likes to get his week underway.

ForceBrands: What does your Sunday routine look like?
Hugh Thomas: I try to relax as much as possible on Sunday to reset before the jam-packed week ahead. The key to being able to relax is to make sure anything work- or home-related is out of my head, and if I’m feeling anxious about work, I’ll take a blank piece of paper and empty my thoughts onto it. Doing this and writing thoughts down often makes the upcoming week seem a whole lot more manageable and less scary.

FB: How do you approach the start of each work week?
HT: Having written my thoughts out on paper, I’m able to assess and clearly pick key priorities at the beginning of the week. Often the first thing I do (usually early on a Monday morning before the world gets going), is to take my key priorities from my to-do list and rank them from 1 to 5. I’ll start working on No. 1 straight away and achieve as much as I can before diving into emails.

FB: What are some tips for motivating on Monday?
HT: I think people can put too much pressure on themselves to start the week fast, but sometimes, just getting the most important 4-5 things on your to-do list done is a great way to start the week.

Keeping things manageable and checking in with the team, to make sure everyone is happy and feeling clear on what they need to achieve, can often be far more productive than burning yourself out on day one.
