JAJA Tequila (pronounced ha-ha) is quite literally putting the fun back in tequila. We caught up with the brand’s co-founders Martin Hoffstein and Maurice Tebele to learn more about JAJA Tequila’s story and how they’re adjusting to life since its launch in 2018.
How do they Start It Sunday? Read on to learn more about how they take on each new week and use the weekends to reset.
Q: What does your Sunday routine look like?
Martin Hoffstein: I definitely lay in bed a little bit longer on Sunday mornings. I then have coffee or cappuccino, read through emails, and then hit the gym. I use my Sunday to spend time with my wife and friends.
Maurice Tebele: I try to make it to the gym during the week but it’s usually rushed. On Sunday, without the pressure of “getting to work,” I am able to focus on my health and wellness. This typically involves doing a nice long gym session followed by jumping back and forth from the sauna to a cold plunge for an hour or so. I try to clear my mind on the weekends by not focusing too much on work since the weekdays bring more than enough stress.
Q: How do you approach the start of each work week?
MH: Fresh start — new goals. I look at my schedule for the week and write down everything I need to accomplish, almost like a forward-looking status report. At the end of the week, I go back and measure what I worked on.
MT: At the end of the last week, tasks which seemed so much heavier on the prior week, suddenly feel lighter. The weekend break is so crucial to resetting the perception of our daily obligations. Once I open up my laptop on Monday morning, I take a stab at the lingering issues from the prior week, then sync with the team on this week’s objectives.
Q: What are some tips for motivating on Monday?
MH: From my experience, I think you need to change the mindset of Monday being daunting. The workweek cycle of Monday through Friday ‘9 to 5’ changed so much in the last few years. To me, Monday has become just another day and another opportunity to start fresh and grow in some capacity.
