Key Responsibilities

  • Harvest - Oversee the ordering of winemaking supplies. This role will partner with Winemaker to review all juice/wine QC lab analysis, monitor daily fermentation. Collaborate with Cellar master to efficiently organize cellar planning. With the Winemaker, support logistics of grape receiving, develop pump-over plans and fermentation regimes to achieve the highest quality. The Assistant Winemaker may be required to assist in vineyard maturity assessments.
  • Wine sensory analysis - Prioritize tastings for quality auditing of wine and necessary fining trials. Actively participate in all tastings and blend trial decisions. Periodically evaluate wines in storage at Kenwood and at offsite facilities.
  • Bottling Prep and Approval - In conjunction with the Winemaker, laboratory, and cellar operations, schedule and perform required pre-bottling adjustments, filtrations, analysis, and approval paperwork to meet demand of the bottling line.
  • Dry Goods Quality Control (in conjunction with Lab Enologist) - Coordinate incoming dry goods QC needs as they are received, in collaboration with Packaging Operations department. Prepare and distribute QC reports as requested.
  • Administrative Duties -
  • WIPS: Writing and processing of cellar work orders, management of wine additives and chemicals for the bioterrorism act compliance.
  • Completing and maintaining bottling approval sheets and back-tracking reports

  • Research and Development -
  • Research, set up, perform and report winemaking R&D projects.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest wine-related scientific research
  • Performs cellar operations including but not limited to: additions to tanks, racking, filtration, and blending.


  • Skills / Qualifications / Experience :

    Essential:

  • 3-5 years winemaking operations experience
  • Minimum BS in Fermentation Science or Enology or related field.
  • Previous cellar and/or winery lab experience.
  • Advanced MS Office skills.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of winemaking operations and winemaking technology.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good math and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills required.
  • Ability to make independent judgments in a high pace environment. Must be prepared for interruptions and changes in job priorities; ability to multi task and work under strict deadlines. Work can be repetitious in nature at times, with a high demand for speed, accuracy and precision.

  • Desirable:

  • Forklift License.
  • Bi-lingual skills a plus.

  • Special Conditions :

  • Intra/Interstate travel as required.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Work is performed in a typical field environment with moderate demands for movement and lifting
