Mike Sill and Beau Schmitt will be the first to tell you that they no longer get the ‘Sunday scaries’ (that anxiety that often sets in with the impending return to work). Instead, they enjoy their Sundays, stay present, and know how to effectively handle any stress that may come their way — it doesn’t help to have created a product specifically designed to relieve anxiety.

Sunday Scaries Co-Founders

Q: What does your Sunday routine look like (ie: do you prep for the week ahead)?
Mike Sill: Sundays are usually spent with my son Jett. We head to the aquatic center, parks, the library, movies, and Jett’s favorite: the beach. Other than that, I usually take Sunday off from physical activity to let my body regenerate and try and focus on the ‘now.’ It’s like reverse preparation for the week. I try not to concentrate on what the future of the week will bring. Instead, I concentrate on enjoying what I’m currently doing.
Beau Schmitt: Sundays are usually spent with my wonderful girlfriend, Liz. When I’m with her, all the stress of owning and operating a small business floats away and I’m able to decompress and have fun with her. She keeps me whole. I used to be in finance so I also like to listen to “Beau jams” in my apartment and dive into the financials of our businesses to see where we can drive sales and cut costs. It’s not work; I enjoy it.

Q: How do you approach the start of each work week?
MS: I wake up at 6am every morning and spend the first hour of my day on me. I abstain from checking my texts or emails first thing. I usually lay in bed until 7am meditating and then listening to pep talks from various influential speakers to get me hyped up. After that, I try and hit the gym or head to yoga, which enables me to go to work feeling accomplished, clear-headed, and positive.
BS: I wake up early every morning and go cycling or hit the gym. This allows me to sweat out any stress and gets my endorphins going. After that, I check the stock market and do some reading on the companies I am invested in to see how my portfolio is doing. Then I text Mike incessantly and bother him with whatever I can think of.

Q: What are some tips for motivating on Monday?
MS & BS: The main tip is just looking at Monday like any other day. Honestly, we are usually excited for Mondays because we love our jobs and we are excited to know that all our vendors, partners, and affiliates are back in action after taking time off during the weekend.

The dread of Monday doesn’t need to exist if you don’t want it to. If you need motivation on Monday there is usually a bigger, underlying problem that needs to be addressed.

For example, you hate what you do for a living. If that’s the case, then continue to dominate at work, but on your own time explore other avenues and try to pinpoint exactly what your passion is so you can monetize it and take your next step in life. But in the meantime, pop some Sunday Scaries and make it not so scary.
