Controls Engineer

Engineer III - Controls Engineer

This position is responsible for supporting and enhancing brewery operations through a strong understanding and improvement mindset of the various control systems.

Essential Duties:

  • Support PLCs, SCADA, VFDs, instrumentation, robotics, and other control systems
    • PLCs - Rockwell preferred
    • SCADA - AVEVA System Platform preferred
    • Robots - Fanuc preferred
    • Variable Frequency Drives - Powerflex preferred
    • Instrumentation - Endress-Hauser preferred
  • Subject matter expert for PLCs and SCADA systems; advisor and mentor to other engineers and maintenance personnel
  • Execute process improvement initiatives from process analysis through programming and commissioning
  • Design and execute programming for PLCs in brewing, packaging, and utilities
  • Create and manage HMI screens and develop interfaces for MES and other production data
  • Develop and maintain SCADA objects and graphics to enhance HMI experience and streamline data management
  • Manage controls servers including HMI, IO, historian, MES, engineering stations, etc. Ensure both OS and controls software is up to date and secure
  • Plans and designs methods to improve production processes
  • Reviews existing processes and develops solutions to increase productivity or reduce costs
  • Performs engineering design evaluations and works to complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints.
  • Reviews industry policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provides technical support for the engineering process
  • Develop, organize, analyze, and present results in support of operations or engineering projects
  • Determine, implement and/or evaluate effectiveness or correction action to remedy issues; ensure safety targets are met
  • Develop experimentation and test methods and protocol to prove engineering concepts
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.


Education/ Experience/Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and 8+ years of experience in the field or equivalent
  • Knowledge in brewing and food and beverage engineering practices, brewery and process equipment, process flow, and facility requirements
  • Solid and proven experience successfully managing projects, contractors, internal and external teams, budgets, scope, and timeline
  • Demonstrated project management/financial management expertise
  • Expert computer skills including engineering applications and project management software including AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Excel and Word
  • Ability to develop experimentation and test methods and protocol to prove engineering concepts
  • Proven ability to understand and design mechanical systems with a strong working knowledge of process and electrical engineering.

Percent of Travel: 10%

Wage information is provided in compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and is Bell's and New Belgium's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation range and benefits offered for this position. The compensation offered to the successful applicant may vary based on factors including experience, skills, education, location, or other position-related reasons.

Starting Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $125,000.00
