Desert Door is a craft distiller of a premium and unique Texas spirit known as Texas sotol. Our liquor is made from the sotol plant which we wild-harvest all across Texas, from Driftwood to Marfa. Sotol was the first alcoholic beverage ever consumed by humans in Texas 800 years ago, and the plant has been in use for over 13,000 years. We cherish that history and are proud to be bringing this historic spirit into the modern era. Our sotol is smoother than whiskey, less smokey than mezcal, and it doesn?t burn like tequila.The Desert Door distillery is located in Driftwood, TX, on the eastern edge of wild sotol country, where you can drop by the desert-modern tasting room and enlighten your palate.Desert Door was conceived by three former military in the classrooms at McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. They share this thing for Texas, for wild authenticity and the deliberateness of craft. And so it makes sense that they would find each other and unearth this uniquely Texan spirit by hand. You could say it was coincidence. But it never is.
