Job Description

The Manager - Plant Engineering 1 is responsible for leading the maintenance department in the preventive, predictive, and corrective repair of production, warehouse and building equipment in a high-speed manufacturing environment. Additionally, the Plant Engineering Manager initiates, coordinates and manages capital projects. Based on ranking criteria of volume, crewing, process complexity, number of lines, and ancillary functions, this role will manage a Level 1 maintenance organization.

What your day will look like:

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the UNITED policies and applicable laws
  • Interview, hire, and train associates

  • Develops departmental skills in the areas of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, refrigeration and structural diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance
  • P/L responsibility for overall repair and maintenance budgets to include parts room inventory, labor, maintenance contracts, and outside services
  • Leads continuous improvement efforts for Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) encompassing parts room inventory control, workorder scheduling, and maintenance documentation
  • Maintains vendor partnerships
  • Responsible for yearly departmental budgeting
  • Contracts outside maintenance services as needed
  • Responsible for project management, performance measurement and continuous improvement
  • Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules
  • Manages the parts procurement and inventory control systems used to manage stock levels and increase accountability
  • Develops Preventative Maintenance procedures based on machine history and/or technical manuals. Ensures PM procedures are routinely followed on a timely basis.
  • Coordinates the activities of the maintenance department to cultivate a productive maintenance environment
  • Ensures direct communication between all shift Maintenance groups concerning issues or repairs made during either shift
  • Understands and maintains International Standards Organization - ISO22000 standards in the maintenance department
  • Partner with Corporate Engineering Department on annual equipment rebuilds and preventative maintenance programs
  • Performs appropriate duties as assigned by management

What you need to succeed:

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Valid driver's license required and obligation to maintain compliance with UNITED fleet policy
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by position and compliance with UNITED safety policies
  • Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to maintain a neat professional appearance within Company guidelines
  • Ability to maintain safety and security of Company assets
  • Ability to utilize all Company provided resources and technology
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to coach and manage needs and concerns of multiple associates
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or 5 to 10 year's related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, or flexible schedule as required
  • Effective technical and written communication skills
  • Strong mechanical ability with hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical
  • Continuous typing/keyboard
  • Frequent walking, bending, kneeling/squatting, climbing stairs, overhead reaching, vehicle operation, grasping, pushing/pulling, fine manipulation and exposure to noise
  • Repeated sitting and exposure to water
  • Strong ability to manage local and capital projects
