The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in supporting the financial operations of the company. This position will assist in managing day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments in a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in reporting.
- General Ledger Management: Support the maintenance of the general ledger, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and adjustments.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Oversee and support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and receipts.
- Inventory Accounting: Work closely with the inventory team to ensure accurate accounting of wine inventory, including cost of goods sold (COGS) calculations, stock reconciliations, and inventory valuation.
- Audit Support: Assist with the preparation and coordination of internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations for financial transactions.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement in operational performance and profitability.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP), tax regulations, and company policies.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the finance department.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including sales, operations, and logistics, to ensure smooth financial operations and timely reporting.
- Assist with Budgeting & Forecasting: Aid in the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts, providing financial insight to support business decisions.
Qualifications:
- Based in or around the NYC Metro area.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or progress towards CPA certification is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with a focus on financial reporting, general ledger, and accounts management.
- Experience in the wine or beverage industry is a plus but not required.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and a proactive approach to tasks.
