Hours of Work:

Monday/Tuesday/Saturday - Days Off

Wednesday: 4AM until finished

Thursday/Friday: 6AM until finished

Sunday: 3AM until finished


The Transportation Department Specialist position is primarily an administrative support position, responsible for timely communication and assisting the manager/supervisor in the routing of drivers and equipment to their designated destinations by proficiently managing the data entry and reporting systems required to do so successfully. Customer satisfaction and efficient utilization of equipment and drivers are of primary concern.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Dispatches out-going loads using PeopleNet, TMS, and mainframe software, ensuring efficient utilization of equipment and drivers;
  • Monitor drivers and equipment using PeopleNet and RoadNet software
  • Ensure the accuracy of loads being delivered to customers;
  • Communicate with shipping department, customers, carriers, and vendors regarding delivery times and delays;
  • Performs receiving clerk duties on Sunday and helps on other days as necessary;
  • Backup receiving clerk when primary clerk is gone;
  • Performs billing clerk duties on Friday and helps on other days as necessary;
  • Backup billing clerk when primary clerk is gone;
  • Enter trip-sheet and timecard data for drivers' payroll;
  • Maintain various files, records, and reports for the Transportation Department;
  • Enter work orders and parts inventory using AS/400 systems;
  • Prepare and reconcile backhaul invoices;
  • Prepare and send out manual invoices weekly and monthly. Reconcile invoices and checks received;
  • Enters daily, weekly, and period AS/400 data and runs reports;
  • Enters and completes quarterly AS/400 inventories (building, equipment, fleet) with mechanics and;
  • Other duties as specified/required.

  • Attends work regularly and on time as scheduled, and maintains an acceptable attendance level;
  • Plans and prioritizes work load to ensure that department needs are met as well as the overall organizational needs of the company;
  • Follows instructions promptly and efficiently, taking initiative when appropriate;
  • Operates within defined company policies, procedures, and the UNFI Code of Conduct;
  • Responds promptly to e-mails and telephone calls, demonstrating consideration and courtesy;
  • Communicates frequently with supervisor to alert the status of on-going operations pertaining to the incumbent's area of responsibility;
  • Performs various Logistic Department related functions and assign-ments in an accurate and timely manner, as required by the circumstances and/or by the supervisor;
  • Assists other department personnel in the performance of work activities such as peak work load and during absences of facility personnel;
  • Treats others with respect and dignity;
  • Adheres to safe work procedures and;
  • Communicates in a professional, business-like manner.

Relevant Experience, Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High School diploma or equivalent Preferred.
  • Advance level working experience in Excel;
  • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA and FMCSA requirements and regulations;
  • Independent-decision making, with limited direction;
  • Good written and verbal communications skills;
  • Adaptability and flexibility in changing work scenarios;
  • High tolerance for stress and meeting deadlines;
  • Ability to work in fast paced, warehouse environment;
  • Strong analytical and administrative skills;
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and high degree of integrity;
  • Strong PC skills - including MS Windows and MS Office and;
  • Strong Data-Entry skills (10-key & Typing).

  • AS/400 experience
Physical Environment:
  • Most work is performed in a temperature controlled office environment;
  • May sit for long periods of time at a desk using a PC;
  • Must do daily yard checks of equipment in all weather conditions;
  • Will use computers, calculators, telephone and other office equipment in the course of the workday;
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. and;
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
