POSITION TITLE: Fulltime Produce/Popcorn

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Produce Manager

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To assist in managing the produce department in promoting sales, achieving profit margins and labor goals and ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Emphasis in this position is on coordinating, directing and assisting with daily stock and display activity in order to ensure merchandising plans are executed and stock levels are maintained. Primary challenge is to positively affect department labor and productivity factors through efficient task organization and delegation. This position is responsible for providing effective training, development and work direction for department associates and requires the ability to encourage individual and group effort toward department objectives. This position requires ongoing customer interaction, judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing, math, computer skills, moderate to heavy lifting, walking, operation of forklift, pallet jack, order processing tools and box cutter. Decision-making is collaborative with Produce Manager. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction are provided by the Produce Manager or person in charge

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

  • Assist customers and ensure proper service levels and courtesy from all associates
    • Greet customers
    • Assist customers with special orders
    • Answer customer questions; provides product sampling and suggestive selling
    • Perform price checks
    • Exchange product when necessary
    • Bring customers to location of item, when needed
    • Assist at check out lanes and cashier as needed

      Functional Requirements

      Frequent: Physical - lifting/carry to 50 lbs., equipment operation (scanner, register, scale, check approval machine, coupon machine, intercom), reaching, standing and turning

  • Organize, direct and assist work of stock crew
    • Effectively communicate with associates about department priorities and objectives
    • Ensure department conditions; product availability and placement, display to shelf stocking, facing, culling, rotation, cleanliness, safety, and signing are maintained properly
    • Ensure proper handling to control shrinkage and waste
    • Assess and monitor fixed activities for assigned shift
    • Direct work to ensure completion of assigned tasks and efficient uses of labor hours
    • Review production work sheets and/or maintain production graphs to ensure goals are being met and assess scheduling needs with Produce Manager
    • Ensure adherence to store and department policies and procedures
    • Monitor customer relations and service levels to ensure a positive shopping environment; sampling, suggestive selling
    • Perform stocking functions

  • Assist in planning and implementation of department merchandising plans
    • Plan display location and size with Produce Manager
    • Assist in display preparation and building displays
    • Implements product resets
    • Maintain proper rotation and culling

      Functional Requirements

      Frequent: Physical - lifting/carrying to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling to 50 force lbs., equipment operation (box cutter, forklift, shopping cart, pallet jack, telxon), reaching, squatting, kneeling, stooping and bending

      Environmental - exposure to cold temperatures (35 to 40 degrees)

      Occasional: Physical - lifting/carrying over 50 lbs climbing ladders, walking on wet,

      uneven ground and crawling
  • Provide ordering of product for produce department
    • Ensure ordering to maintain appropriate stock levels
    • Ensure orders are placed within allotted time
    • Maintain familiarity with movement of key items to ensure a minimum of over or under stock
    • Order from main and secondary suppliers

  • Assist with training and evaluation of produce department personnel
    • Train department personnel in proper techniques and procedures
    • Ensure forklift and racking procedure training is provided to associates
    • Assist and advise on all probationary and regular performance reviews
    • Provide individual and group guidance and encouragement toward department objectives
    • Ensure associates know and follow pertinent company policies and procedures

  • Assist in monitoring and directing safety, sanitation and loss prevention standards in the department
    • Monitor and train associates in proper use and maintenance of equipment, proper lifting techniques, sanitation standards, including food handling regulations and other related safe work practices
    • Report all accidents to store management or produce management
    • Observe department conditions and ensure prompt resolution of potentially hazardous situations
    • Ensure department is swept and sweep log is current

  • Participate in receiving function and back room organization
    • Verify invoices to product received
    • Check product for freshness and damage
    • Ensure receiving record and drop sheet book are properly maintained
    • Monitor organization of product to ensure efficient access and clear passageways
    • Ensure processing of shop back, damaged goods and maintaining damage records
    • Ensure product is properly dated
