Job Description


The Cost Accounting Manager will be located in Puyallup, Washington, or Bellevue, Washington, but will require 2-3 days a week in the other location. This position will have up to 5 direct reports, located in both Bellevue and Puyallup. The Accounting Department is responsible for all governance, control and reporting for Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits Distribution business for the states of Washington and Oregon. Certain Accounting functions are performed locally, while other functions are performed by Corporate Shared Services (FL). Regardless of where the functions are performed, the Cost Accounting Manager, under the supervision of the VP, Regional Controller, will:

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee one Cost Accountant, two Cost Coordinators, one Inventory Coordinator & one Claims Analyst
  • Complete and/or review the Gross Profit Reconciliation at month end, according to the close schedule, and distribute to Executive VP & VP, Regional Controller for approval
  • Complete and/or review cost of goods balance sheet reconciliations
  • Reconcile and analyze inventory cost variances to resolution
  • Work closely with General Ledger Manager during month end close to ensure timely financial monthly closing
  • Oversee and maintain relationship between Costing/Brand Managers and Suppliers
  • Facilitate layer changes and floor stock adjustments
  • Oversee/maintain accuracy of tax conditions, including excise tax and tariffs, and reconciliation of related tax accrual accounts
  • Research, analyze and report on margin questions on demand
  • Back up Costing Coordinators as needed, when workload demands
  • Oversee brand acquisition and brand loss inventory transfers for proper costing/layer and change/tax conditions
  • Review and approve cost/claim chargebacks & write-offs
  • Supervise all aspects of claims process with suppliers/freight carriers
  • Oversee all item conditions and related issues & adjustments
  • Related projects and tasks as required


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree plus 5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of cost and inventory accounting and experience with the same
  • Excellent data gathering and analysis skills, Excel knowledge at a high level
  • 3 years of experience supervising/managing exempt level employees

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SAP
  • CPA certificate
  • A broad, deep knowledge of COGS required, preferably in the alcohol beverage industry
  • Analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of SAP Financials or similar large framework GL system required.
  • Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances are utilized frequently.
  • Understanding of microeconomics as it applies to the industry
  • Strong communication skills - written, verbal, persuasion, motivation, facilitation of strong working relationships
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite and/or software applications related to job function
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, analytical/problem solving, problem management, presentation development and presentation delivery skills

  • Physical demands with activity or condition may include occasional to rare amount of time include walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping
  • May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 15lbs
