Overview

This position is responsible for assisting the Distribution Manager with the successful day to day execution of the operational plans for the fleet, management of driver and load dispatch, including efficient route optimization, equipment utilization, safety and hours of service.

Primary Responsibilities

• Manage staff and yard operation as assigned by Manager as determined by the assigned Manager
• Coach, train, and mentor direct reports in order to ensure personal growth and career development
• Assist driver recruitment and retention
• Ensure all transportation employees understand and operate within the organizational, operational, safety and service policies and procedures
• Support the Manager with the execution of the daily operating plan, driver assignments, and dispatching
• Verify that all required paperwork is available, accurate, and assembled in advance of driver s dispatch times
• Ensure availability of equipment to meet driver assignments in advance of dispatch times (slip-seating and equipment share)
• Provide various levels of communication via in group settings, one-on-one coaching on subjects, not limited to, performance, safety, business practices, etc.
• Develop a viable contingency plan in the event of absenteeism and or last-minute business requirements
• Monitor real-time transportation and fleet management systems to address challenges and maintain proactive direct communication with both drivers and customers (Internal / External)
• Utilize company determined electronic devices and systems to track driver performance and provide feedback related to performance in a timely, positive, and supportive manner
• Ensure driver returns, shortage, breakage, and product pick-up procedures are managed and tracked daily. Persistent issues need are to be addressed according to company policy and escalated to Depot Manager if necessary
• Ensure all DVIR s are monitored and equipment is either delivered and or required repairs are communicated to the maintenance provider
• Communicate with Depot Manager and State Fleet Manager to ensure compliance with maintenance programs for all equipment
• Provide daily feedback and communication to the Manager and Routing Team relating to previous and upcoming delivery plans
• Assist with the management of P&L and budgetary requirements
• Responsible for safe vehicle operations, hours of service (HOS) compliance, equipment safety, safe loading/unloading. Must collaborate and participate in required safety committees and must comply and support the Depot Manager, State Safety Manager, and State Fleet Safety Manager
• Maintain the security of facility, equipment, products in an organized and clean manner
• Strive for the continuous overall improvement of fleet operations
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Additional Primary Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor s Degree and three years of experience or equivalent education and related experience
• 21 years or older
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong organization, multi-tasking and time management skills
• Valid state motor vehicle operator s license and ability to obtain and maintain auto-liability insurance in accordance with State laws
• Class A CDL required
• Strong knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
• Valid state motor vehicle operator s license

Physical Demands

• Physical demands include a considerable amount of time walking, bending, reaching, standing, squatting, and stooping
• Additional hours may be required during October, November, and December and other peak periods
• May require lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 56lb
