    Position Summary

    Responsible for managing the daily activities of the Factory Control Services Department including: production performance, budgetary/financial performance, customer service performance, personnel, special projects, and short/long term planning and implementation in accordance with strategic operational plans.

    Directly and indirectly responsible for the performance of factory systems in support of on-going factory operations. The incumbent will assume the roles commonly referenced as system and database administrators for our factory systems. The incumbent must stay well tuned in to factory production needs so as to prepare to support same. The incumbent will participate in development of new and enhanced systems, both by a leadership role in the aforementioned database and operating system realms, and via influence in the design and refinement of the application software. The ability to predict and accommodate change is very important.

    An implicit understanding of our business rules, goals and product specifications is vital to the ability to recognize when operations are supporting, hurting or ignoring our finished product and customer service performance.


    Production/Operations Support : Maintain stable, secure factory computer system operations. Plan, document and monitor performance of the tasks required to keep our systems running effectively, securely and recoverably. Provide production technical support as necessary. Act as backup Operator, Technician, or Programmer as necessary.

    Factory Systems Infrastructure Design and Support : Provide technical services to develop, deploy and maintain PC and server hardware, factory system LAN, server and client elements, database management systems, operating systems, web servers, LAN/WAN's, and other software tools as may be needed. Design, implement and support system backup strategies. Ensure OS Patches and security updates are applied.

    Supervision and Administration of FCS Resources : Supervise the work of the FCS Operators, Technician, and Senior Systems Analyst / Programmer. Organize work schedules and monitor performance against same. Guide the professional development of reports. Ensure cross training in areas of responsibility to ensure back-up support for systems. Provide discipline and recognition to reports as needed.

    Special Programs : Ensure that Hiram Walker and external regulatory policies and programs are followed and supported



  • Minimum: Associates Degree in Computer Science or Electronics
  • Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Electronic Engineering

  • Experience/Background

  • A demonstrable ability to support automated computer systems based on at least five (5) years of successful experience in a demanding environment, would be considered - subject to serious inquiry as to the depth and breadth of same.

  • Technical Functional Skills

  • Windows Operating System configuration, operation, administration and recovery techniques are vital knowledge.
  • LAN support (configuration, troubleshooting) knowledge is vital.
  • Electronics knowledge is important, e.g. to understand the possibilities of what could be wrong, how to diagnose, and how to repair our factory system implementations. For example, the ability to diagnose and then recover from a fiber optic cable failure is very important.
  • SQL Server dbms administration and recovery knowledge is vital.
  • An excellent understanding of our application software is vital in order to provide guidance re troubleshooting problems and establishing sound recovery procedures for predictable problems.
  • Knowledge of our business and product quality requirements is essential to recognize when FCS operations can hinder or help adherence to same.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both in speech and writing, is vital to establishing and maintaining sound, consistent practices by our Operator / Technicians.
  • Team building and invigoration are vital skills as our staff, especially the Operators and Technicians, need to be motivated to routinely respond quickly, effectively and safely.
