Position Title: Director, Public Affairs & Policy

Location: Washington, DC Office

Position Overview

This position reports to the Vice President, Public Affairs. The Director, Public Affairs & Policy will coordinate closely with colleagues in Public Affairs to provide support, material, and policy recommendations primarily to policymakers at the federal and international level. Working with teams across Pernod Ricard, including Sales, Marketing, Operations, Communications, the Director will help achieve important public policy goals meant to advance Pernod Ricard's Global and Domestic policy agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Support the activities of the Public Affairs function in building the Pernod Ricard brand among stakeholders in Washington, DC, the diplomatic community, and key states as needed.
  • Develop and demonstrate substantial knowledge of Pernod Ricard's business and operations and be prepared to provide regular updates and briefings to Pernod Ricard teams.
  • Represent Pernod Ricard in trade associations and partnerships across a broad group of officials, partners, customers, etc.; play significant role in associations and build coalitions with similarly situated interest groups and companies.
  • Execute strategy to successfully represent Pernod Ricard in important policy matters, including participation in lobbying on legislative and regulatory policy in key areas before government officials and agencies.
  • Coordinate with Pernod Ricard USA VP for Public Affairs and Sr. Director for Public Affairs, headquarters, and communications teams on Sustainability and Responsibility efforts in order to maximize our Return On Responsibility in relation to state and federal elected officials and policy.
  • Work with Public Affairs colleagues to develop and implement effective outreach strategies designed to bring project policy goals to the attention of elected and appointed federal policymakers, including direct contact, conferences, e-communications, and other activities.
  • Represent Pernod Ricard by attending policy, community and fundraising events.
  • Identify and communicate legislative issues and trends that impact Pernod Ricard, including preparing memoranda and briefing materials.
  • Support the strategic activities of Pernod Ricard's Political Action Committee.

  • Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in government relations, government service, federal and state campaigns, and/or social policy advocacy.
  • Experience working with a variety of public and private-sector officials across the political spectrum, and a strong network of contacts with government officials, including members of Congress and their staff as well as state policymakers. An ability to leverage relationships to influence positive outcomes. An existing set of relationships and ability to build new relationships is critical.
  • Experience working with government and corporate executives; ability to translate complex information into an easily understandable narrative. Experience with trade associations.
  • Excellent political skills and judgment. Demonstrated leadership and management ability, and strong and diplomatic interpersonal skills. Able to develop and manage productive relationships with a range of diverse interests.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, foster consensus, and collaborate with national partners.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and experience interacting with the media.
  • Ability to thrive in a creative, fast paced, and highly professional corporate culture that emphasizes excellence, collegiality, and teamwork.

  • Preferred

  • Master's degree required or equivalent experience required.
  • A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in government relations, government service, federal and state campaigns, and/or social policy advocacy, demonstrating a high level of understanding of state and federal policy development; state-level experience is strongly preferred.
