Position Summary

The Director of Cost Accounting position plays an integral role in the North America Accounting Leadership Team. The role will provide Cost Accounting leadership for a team of site-based cost accounting professionals. The Cost Accounting function works with operations finance as well as the general accounting team to drive costing oversight, compliance and supports the analytics for manufacturing finance. Director of Cost Accounting will contribute to the development and execution of our annual budget plans, cost roll and play an integral part in aligning operation team goals with financial leadership's expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and ensure consistent application of cost accounting principles across the North America manufacturing sites
  • Lead the strategic direction of the Cost Accounting Department
  • Mentor, train and develop a team of cost accounting professionals
  • Act as the key liaison to the North America Operations Finance Team in all aspects of cost accounting
  • Develop new, robust processes to drive productivity in the cost accounting function
  • Own the development of the annual budget plan
  • Drive continuous improvement and own the delivery of the annual cost roll process
  • Manage the process of assessing inventory for excess and obsolescence reserves
  • Lead monthly close process for team cost accounting tasks
  • Review and approve manual GL journal entries and monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Analysis of manufacturing variances and the capitalization of variances
  • Assist with the coordination and deliverables for quarterly reviews and annual audits performed by internal and external auditors
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting and analyses and assist team with research on cost accounting questions and assist with special projects as requested.
  • Review work and conduct goal setting, performance evaluations and career development discussions for team
  • Identify and drive process improvement initiatives

  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent experience); preferably CPA designation
  • 10+ years of leadership and direct experience in accounting, reporting, and costing within a large, professionally managed operating company
  • Manufacturing background with in-depth knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and financial reporting for a manufacturing organization
  • Demonstrated experience in a large, multinational, heavily matrixed organization
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills in large matrix organizations
  • Ability to influence and engage business partners, peers, direct/indirect reports; Have ability to effectively interface with senior management
  • Self-reliant, problem solver and results oriented
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with JD Edwards Enterprise One, or similar ERP financial software systems
  • Strong team building skills and proven ability to work with a diverse group of people in a global-matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated success attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining high-potential talent
  • You possess a strong knowledge of cost accounting principles including capitalization of variances, tracks various manufacturing related provisions, and experience with rolling standard costs
