Job Summary:

We are seeking a hardworking individual to join our growing team as an Assistant Blender on the TX Whiskey brand. This position will report directly to the Head Blender, and the primary role is to provide quality assurance and quality control support to our award-winning distilling team throughout the brewing, distilling, blending, and bottling operations. The position is best suited for an individual who can follow standard operating procedures, as well as create new procedures and optimize current procedures. The position requires utmost attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, to work in a dynamic team environment, as well as individually, as needed. A distillery is a physically demanding environment, so the ideal candidate should also be comfortable working in a hot/cold, loud, and fast-paced workplace. Duties of the Assistant Blender take place in multiple environments, such as outdoors, non-climate-controlled buildings, and climate-controlled laboratory areas. Duties will also include involvement in various R&D projects. Specific roles of the Assistant Blender will include tasks such as, but not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undergo sensory training and ensure all team member sensory training is current
  • Optimize current sensory program and expand procedures of all distillery sensory check points
  • Assist in the prompt and effective resolution of issues with internal operations and external customer complaints
  • Maintain a log of samples across distillation operations for traceability purposes and analytical testing
  • Research and report relevant regulations and initiate implementation to ensure conformance
  • Assist in the sampling and assessment of maturation stock with Head Blender
  • Conduct necessary laboratory testing for QA purposes
  • Maintain equipment calibration, perform preventative maintenance on lab equipment, and keep log of equipment performance
  • Proper handling and utilization of chemicals in lab and distillation setting
  • Understand and practice all internal safety standards, and implement standards with operations teams as necessary
  • Identify potential issues across production and quality processes, use root cause analysis to problem solve and ensure measures are put in place to detect and prevent reoccurrence
  • Assist in ad-hoc projects
  • Perform routine and non-routine duties as needed


  • Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in food science, biology, sensory science, or similar background; experience in R&D, food processing environment or lab settings preferred.
  • Strong understanding of sensory procedures, quality assurance/quality control, and implementation of new control points.
  • Demonstrated project management techniques. Able to visualize, start, conduct, monitor, conclude, and report on projects.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to present information concisely and clearly to all levels of management.
  • Analytical and strong problem solver with attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Enjoys working under pressure and at a fast pace.
  • Must be physically able to handle empty/filled whiskey barrels.
