About The Position
Help founders/senior leaders develop and execute their U.S. business growth plans.
Who we are

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is New Zealand's international business development agency. We are a hands-on, collaborative and deeply commercially team, working with some of New Zealand's most forward-thinking and innovative companies.

What you'll be doing

Our Food and Beverage team currently works with 120 New Zealand businesses in the U.S., ranging from commodities like proteins, dairy and produce to natural and specialty CPG, and wines and spirits. The number of companies we work with is growing, so we are expanding the team.

You will be helping founders/senior leaders develop and execute their U.S. business growth plans. You will help them understand and navigate the nuances of the U.S. market, identify potential in-market partners and opportunities, and develop and grow new channels to market by drawing on your own experience, knowledge and networks, and collaborating with NZTE colleagues and specialist advisors.

A superb relationship manager and team player, you will be part of a global organisation working with colleagues in the Americas, New Zealand and our other international offices to help the companies in your portfolio be successful in the U.S.

This role can be based out of either our New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles offices.

What you'll need to be successful

You will have a solid understanding of the U.S. food and beverage landscape and the commercial smarts to manage a varied portfolio of approx. 30 amazing food and beverage companies, ranging from start-ups to corporates. You will know how to help a company enter the U.S. market and succeed no matter what their market development budget is, by helping them maximise the resources and capabilities they have.

While you may not have deep expertise across all the categories in your portfolio, your experience will cover multiple categories, and you will have a willingness to learn and build your knowledge and networks from the ground up in others. You will have the capability and dynamism to support the companies across retail (brick and mortar and e-comm), foodservice and (occasionally) B2B/manufacturing channels.

Superior communication skills are critical, as is the ability to build credibility and trust quickly and a willingness to 'roll your sleeves up' and do whatever is required to set your clients on a course for success. Your enthusiastic, 'can-do' attitude, proactive nature, creative problem-solving skills and ability to work in virtual teams will be critical to your success.

Why you'll love working here

NZTE offers a flexible, fun and stimulating environment with a unique opportunity to develop and access world-class business networks and work with a talented, diverse, international team.
