Gainful is looking for a multi-talented brand designer to join our growing team! The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a portfolio that spans paid + organic social, OOH, email, typography, photography, and print + packaging. Any UI/UX experience is a plus.

As our brand designer, you will be reporting into our Design Director and working closely with our Brand Director, VP Growth and Retention, Senior Product Designer, Copywriter (TBH), Social Media Manager, Lifecycle Marketing Manager and Operations team to produce assets across digital and print + packaging channels. The position is highly collaborative and requires strong people-skills and a willingness to do whatever design task is needed. Ideally, your creative will help support our Design Director in pushing the vision for Gainful's brand so that we can continue to evolve our look and feel, and directly help realize cross-functional strategies and meet business objectives.

Lastly, you will assist our Design Director in sourcing, evaluating, and managing any creative partners (photographers, videographers, stylists, agencies, freelancers, etc).

Gainful recently raised a round of funding, and we've set aggressive goals for 2021.

Responsibilities include:
  • Ads: Design Facebook, Instagram, SMS, affiliate banners, and Google Display ads
  • Print: Design direct mail pieces, inserts, marketing collateral, and postcards
  • Email: Design, and maintain brand standards for visual communication
  • Social Media: Design organic and paid social posts.
  • Physical Product: Create mockups as well as final dielines for new product packaging
  • Photography: Work with Lead Designer to coordinate and art direct studio/outdoor photo shoots
  • Ad hoc: Presentation design and company swag
  • UI/UX experience is a plus.
  • In partnership with growth, tech and brand, understanding the needs of our customers and other design research to inform design choices.
  • Assist Lead Designer in building out and maintaining brand guidelines, and design processes and systems.

  • 1-2+ years experience in brand design ideally at a tech-enabled consumer brand (DTC preferred)
  • BFA or BA in graphic design, advertising, fine arts, or relevant fields.
  • Proficiency in Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign), Lightroom, and Figma or Sketch.
  • Ability to concept and execute a broad range of visual assets from start to finish.
  • Experience in working with photography/video, art direction, photo editing.
  • Experience in illustration and designing motion graphics in After Effects are a plus.
  • Deep understanding of consumer branding with an ability to naturally adopt our brand's tone of voice & visual identity.
  • Experience with user research such as surveys, interviews, and usability testing
  • Background in designing for mobile-first platforms - understanding best practices, design patterns, technical limitations
  • Front-end development, illustration, videography, animation, branding, prop styling.

  • Interest or experience in nutrition, wellness, fitness, or food/bev.
  • Experience at a high-growth startup, especially direct-to-consumer subscription.

Location: New York City (100% remote during COVID-19 outbreak), however we are re-opening our office late-summer

Hours: Full time, unlimited PTO

Pay: competitive salary + equity

  • Gainful will cover 99% of the monthly cost of the Gold plan, or 85% of Platinum
