CHEERS! Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits currently seeks a Head of Marketing and Creative Services to lead our growing internal shopper marketing and design function. This exciting team leads the delivery of integrated shopper marketing campaigns and packaging development across our leading portfolio of wine and spirits brands such as Josh Cellars, Yellow Tail, Layer Cake wines, Redemption Whiskey and Gray Whale Gin.

Reporting into the Senior VP of Marketing and managing a team of 16 direct and indirect reports, the Head of Marketing and Creative Services will be charged withbuilding infrastructure, process and innovation in approach for a rapidly growing marketing services agency while also being able to "roll up their sleeves" and drive flawless execution of integrated shopper marketing programs. This role is based out of Stamford, CT and has flexibility between working from home and working in our headquarters.

  • Drive Big Thinking and Excellence in Execution: Effectively lead all shopper marketing and package design development processes ensuring team is meeting the brief across all assignments while holding the tension to ensure partner functions are providing motivating and clear direction from brief to feedback to program and tactic finalization
  • Build process and Infrastructure: Assess and improve existing idea and tactic development and presentation approaches within the team and create and train a formal process for brainstorming and idea and tactic generation in partnership with VP of Consumer Insights
  • Team leadership: Oversee Account Management team, Creative Team and Internal Operations team, to ensure that brand shopper marketing programs, custom retail chain programs, and local field programs are highly effective
  • Brand Stewardship: Develop an in-depth knowledge of each brands business, strategic objectives and annual goals, key trends; brand positioning, marketing programs and commercial strategies
  • Commercial Partnership/Collaboration: Build consultative relationships with the Customer Marketing Team and Marketing Activation Managers to understand the customer needs across leading retailer partners in service of developing shopper marketing programs that are targeted to these specific retailers and their consumer bases
  • Operations: Meticulously run day to day operations of a full-service Integrated Shopper Agency, supervise the teams output and troubleshoot problems and issues. Develop and implement ideas to ensure the smooth operation of the department. Maintain project timelines to ensure tasks are accomplished on time. Develop, implement, and maintain budgetary and resource allocation plans
  • Coaching and Development: Develop, lead and inspire the team including recruiting, on-boarding, coaching, and overall performance management. Manage Training and Development agenda to enable the team to learn and adapt to the latest best practice in shopper marketing and package and communications design

  • A minimum of 15+ years CPG client-side shopper marketing experience or equivalent years of client management experience within a shopper marketing agency
  • Proven track record of effective oversight of staff priorities, workload balancing/utilization, employee recognition/rewards and routine staff professional development to keep turnover at a minimum and staff morale high
  • Experience designing effective agency process with an emphasis on creative brainstorming and idea platform development
  • Experience developing programs with major retail chains such as Kroger, Target, Wal-Mart, Publix and Costco

  • Proven track record of developing successful integrated shopper marketing programs that span pre-shop, in-store, and post purchase behavior drivers (multiple case studies will be required in the interview process)
  • A deep passion for shoppers and a curiosity for the drivers behind shopper behavior and the emerging ways to provide utility on their path to purchase
  • Innovative mindset, unafraid and inspired to bring something new to this space
  • Solid client management experience with ability to cultivate strong relationships with brand team, trade, sales, customer marketing teams, including 3rd party agencies as required, to harmonize cross-functional communications from inception to analysis of programs
  • An experienced leader with superior inspirational qualities who creates an atmosphere in which people work together enthusiastically and cooperatively to produce outstanding results
  • Exceptional staff and team development skill coaching & mentoring people to grow and achieve their full potential
  • Ability to complete multiple duties with accuracy shifting from one to another with frequent interruptions and competing deadlines
  • Extensive experience collaborating with external partners (e.g., Brand and customer marketing teams, advertising, design, digital agencies) to develop platform ideas and creative/design assets
