Beam Suntory currently has the following position open in our modern offices located on the 16th floor of the iconic Merchandise Mart building in downtown Chicago.

Role Responsibilities

CORPORATE PARALEGAL (CONTRACTS)

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF ROLE:

The corporate paralegal will provide support and leadership for contract management activities and assist with Industry Law and Intellectual Property matters as needed for Beam Suntory's Legal Department. The corporate paralegal will also be given other ad hoc projects in support of the Beam Suntory Legal Department. The position requires a person who can prepare and handle sensitive and confidential information with maximum discretion and diplomacy. Candidates must possess considerable initiative, independent judgment, a capability to manage multiple priorities, strong attention to detail and a continuous learning and improvement mentality. This position will report be based in Chicago, IL and report to the Associate General Counsel - North America.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration in all aspects of the role within and outside the Legal Department in addressing issues in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Support attorneys in the review and negotiation of various contracts.
  • Create, maintain and update the end-to-end contract process and contract lifecycle management activities.
  • Ability to learn and apply skills on certain Industry Law and Intellectual Property matters.
  • Serve as advisor in assessing contracts and providing issue resolution under attorney supervision as needed.
  • Show capability to take on more advanced projects with additional experience.
  • Make decisions independently, in accordance with established training, procedures and guidelines.
  • Provide recommendations to the attorneys as to whether documents are ready for execution.
  • Attend all department meetings and contribute to the continuing effort to improve the work product of the Legal Department.
  • Prioritize, manage and track progress against key initiatives.
  • Identify legal issues and escalate to the appropriate attorney.
  • Create and conduct various training sessions with key business partners.

Qualifications & Experience
  • High school graduate required (Bachelor's degree, Paralegal Certificate or Business School courses preferred).
  • 5-7+ years of paralegal experience with a focus on contracts in a mid-to-large law firm or in-house required.
  • Solid knowledge of administrative procedures; strong verbal and written communications skills; excellent grammar and ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be a self-starter and good planner with ability to meet deadlines without exception.
  • Must be flexible and agile when priorities change and show calm under pressure to adapt to those changes.
  • Must have unquestioned capability to maintain confidentiality;an intense customer service and people orientation, and the willingness to introduce creative ideas in pursuit of continuous improvement.
  • Must have a willingness to ask questions and respond to feedback.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills sufficient to make decisions regarding daily work that is complex in nature.
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, able to handle a high-pressure environment, possess excellent communication skills and phone etiquette.
  • Must work well in an open, team-oriented environment, as well as work independently without much supervision.
  • Must be highly skilled in basic and advanced functions of Microsoft Office products and Adobe Pro and be comfortable with upgrades and technology improvements.
