About The Position
Ray's Station Winery is located in Hopland, CA and is part of the Vintage Wine Estates portfolio. Vintage Wine Estates is one of the nation's largest wine producers with Ray's Station as it's central production facility in Mendocino County, It is currently expanding by adding a 265,000 square-foot case goods warehouse. Ray's Station handles much of the bottling for California brands that aren't estate-bottled. They also handle custom crush and bottling projects for vintners outside the portfolio.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision, the position performs a wide variety of highly skilled mechanical and electrical duties to include installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and modification of bottling production equipment.                                                                                                                                                     

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains bottling equipment and associated infrastructure, including but not limited to hardware, machinery, PLC’s, and line synchronization equipment.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret manuals and schematics
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical controls and PLC’s preferred
  • Responsible for maximizing efficiency of bottling line changeovers, adjustments, synchronization of equipment and equipment up-time
  • Assembles and installs mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and systems, to include bottling production machinery, tooling and conveyor systems.
  • Performs preventative and predictive maintenance and maintains accurate and timely records
  • Makes recommendations for process and efficiency improvements and, as applicable, executes action plans for these improvements
  • Follows general housekeeping procedures including organizing parts, machines and shop cleaning
  • Assists in the establishing and implementation of Bottling Line SOPs.
  • Conducts on-going assessment of safety and operational procedures
  • Ensures line up-time to meet bottling schedule
  • Maintains equipment to meet packaging standards and established guidelines
  • Responds as needed to emergency maintenance calls
  • Disassembles malfunctioning equipment; examines and tests mechanisms on large and small machinery. Reassembles and tests equipment and adjusts calibration to ensure equipment is functioning within specified standards.
  • Inspects and calibrates instruments
  • Ensures that all machine guarding is compliant with OSHA and company safety standards
  • Complies with all required PPE and OSHA regulatory requirements
  • Submits requisitions for parts and materials
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal or no direct supervision
  • May be required to cover in absence of immediate supervisor
  • Assists in other departments as needed (Bottling, Cellar, Facilities Maintenance)
  • May be required to work overtime and/or swing shift
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Bottling Maintenance Supervisor

  • Candidate will work from detailed schematics, samples, drawings, and/or verbal instructions and will utilize standard hand and portable power tools
  • Ability to work with all levels of management and deal effectively with diverse individuals
  • Must be available to work overtime, as required
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years advanced experience working directly in the repair, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and efficiency maximization of bottling line mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Formal factory training on bottling line equipment preferred
  • Coursework, technical training or trade schooling desired in areas applicable to position and equipment
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Valid California Driver’s License with ability to operate company vehicles
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to steel toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, reflective vest, etc.
  • The ability to stand, walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch for extended periods of time
  • The ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move only up to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
