About The Position
We are seeking a seasoned sales manager to oversee all channel sales efforts in our home market, manage our small but talented sales team, work hand-in-hand with our chain partners throughout the state.
 The Sonoma Distilling Company is an award-winning distillery located in Rohnert Park, California.  Following its successful rebranding with updated packaging and the near completion of an expanded production facility, we are seeking a seasoned sales manager to oversee all channel sales efforts in our home market, manage our small but talented sales team, work hand-in-hand with our chain partners throughout the state and manage budgets to plan successes year over year. 

 Job Description:

The role of the California Sales Manager is to successfully achieve sales and brand building objectives as approved in collaboration with the board.  The State Manager plays a pivotal role in all aspects of the business, including but not limited to:

  • Refinement and implementation of the California sales plan
  • Management of Area Sales Managers
  • Management of financial budgets
  • Management of the California distributor network 
  • Collaborating with distributor sales teams in all channels of trade
  • Managing chain and strategic accounts
  • Growing an existing relationship with specific chain accounts
  • Reinforcing pricing and programming
  • Personally calling on accounts to promote and educate

The position requires an individual with a solid understanding of the beverage alcohol business and someone that possesses excellent selling, critical thinking and decision-making skills.  This position reports to the CEO and the Board of Sonoma Distilling Company.

Specific Responsibilities:
  1. Provide requested information as well as market related intelligence to CEO on a timely basis
  2. Provide CEO with creative ideas that help grow brand awareness and account presence
  3. Develop business plans consistent with the objectives of the company’s go-to-market strategy and goals
  4. Develop professional, respectful working relationships with all business entities including, distributors, chains and on/off premise accounts
  5. Operate within established budgets
  6. Successfully implement business plans with distributors and ensure the objectives (volume, distribution, pricing strategy) are achieved
  7. Play an active role with the distributor and “suggested” pricing, in order to ensure our brand is not at a competitive disadvantage in the marketplace
  8. Oversee distributor programming and ensure that pricing is implemented and volume targets achieved
  9. Identify new opportunities and take a proactive approach in the placement and development of our brand
  10. Maintain a system that analyzes current performance against volume and financial objectives and take corrective action when needed
  11. Implement creative brand building ideas, within accounts, that generate turnover
  12. Expand distribution within targeted accounts in the on and off premise by:
    1. Working with distributor sales people
    2. Personally calling on accounts
  13. Maintain a high level of knowledge of our products, in order to communicate and educate
  14. Conduct educational seminars with distributor sales people and accounts, so they’re knowledgeable about the special qualities of our products
  15. Participate in distributor sales meetings as necessary
  16. Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with Federal and State laws and company policies

Job Requirements:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree – business related preferred
  2. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the beverage alcohol industry (Spirits background strongly preferred)
  3. Experience working with Young’s Market Company in California
  4. Possess a proven track record – managing distributors and building brands
  5. Able to develop brand building plans that are commercially viable and implementable
  6. Able to develop professional, respectful, working relationships with all business entities i.e. distributors and accounts
  7. Ability to maximize ROI by appropriately managing financial budgets
  8. Solid analytical skills
  9. Professional sales and presentation skills
  10. Proficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  11. Strong communication and follow-up skills
  12. Must be willing and able to:
    1.  Travel as job requires
    2. Work evenings as job requires
    3. Conduct tastings at or away from the distillery
    4. Live within 40 miles of our Rohnert Park distillery
